Stephane Aziz Ki’s Legacy at Yanga: A Story of Success and Impact

Attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki has officially left Yanga SC after three highly successful seasons. His transfer to Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco has not only brought approximately TSh 2 billion into Yanga’s coffers but also grants him a historic opportunity to play in the FIFA Club World Cup set to take place next month in the United States.

Aziz Ki departs Yanga with a powerful legacy, both on and off the pitch. Arriving as a free agent from ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast, he quickly emerged as one of the most influential players in transforming the club’s footballing image — especially on the continental stage.

1. Goal Contributions

In 114 appearances across all competitions for Yanga, Aziz Ki was directly involved in 86 goals — scoring 54 goals and providing 32 assists. Last season alone, he netted 21 goals in the Premier League, making him the league’s top scorer, surpassing Feisal Salum ‘Fei Toto’, who finished with 19 goals.

2. Shining in His Final Season

By the time of his departure this season, Aziz Ki had already scored 9 league goals and provided 7 assists. In the FA Cup, he scored 4 goals, including a hat-trick against Stand United. In the CAF Champions League, he scored 4 goals, two of which came during the group stage.

3. Hat-Trick Specialist

Aziz Ki made a name for himself as a prolific hat-trick scorer, registering five hat-tricks during his time in Tanzania — four in the Premier League and one in the FA Cup. He started with a hat-trick against Kagera Sugar, followed by two more last season against Azam FC and Tanzania Prisons, and added two more this season, one against KMC and another against Stand United in the FA Cup.

4. Hero in Historic Wins

His goal against Club Africain in Tunisia during the CAF Confederation Cup was pivotal in sending Yanga to the group stage — a run that eventually saw them reach the final of the tournament for the first time in the club’s history. He also scored a controversial goal against Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League — a goal that could have taken Yanga to the semi-finals had it been allowed.

5. Impact in the Kariakoo Derby

Aziz Ki leaves behind bitter memories for Yanga’s arch-rivals, Simba SC and Azam FC. He scored three goals against Simba — including a free-kick in a 1-1 draw, and another in the historic 5-1 victory on November 5, 2023. He also scored consistently against Azam FC, including a hat-trick at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on October 23, 2023.

In summary, Stephane Aziz Ki leaves a unique legacy for Wananchi. He was more than just a player — he became a symbol of Yanga’s modern success, delivering excitement, results, and leadership. His transfer reflects his value in African football and beyond, and he now carries Yanga’s name into the global spotlight.
