Yesterday was an emotional day for Yanga SC fans – not only because of a brilliant 2-0 win over JKT Tanzania in the CRDB Cup semifinal, but also because of the special honor given to attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki. Wearing the captain’s armband, the team and fans collectively acknowledged that this might have been his final match in a Yanga jersey.
Aziz Ki, last season’s top scorer and MVP of the NBC Premier League, is expected to join Moroccan football giants Wydad Athletic Club. The agreement between Yanga and Wydad was reached months ago, awaiting only the end of the season to finalize the move of the talented midfielder to the North African powerhouse.
Unfortunately, delays in the conclusion of the Tanzanian Premier League season have forced Aziz Ki to leave earlier than anticipated, as Wydad is preparing to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup set to take place in the United States starting June 15. This means the two remaining league matches — scheduled for June 18 and June 22 — may be played without this temporary captain.
During his three seasons with Yanga, Aziz Ki has left an unforgettable mark: he’s been a creative playmaker, a reliable scorer, and an exceptional leader. He’s lifted trophies, created chances, and most importantly — redefined the club’s modern football identity. Players like him are rare: mentally sharp, physically strong, and tactically gifted.
