Knockout Rounds
In the quarter-finals, Yanga faced Rivers United from Nigeria. A 2-0 away victory in the first leg, followed by a goalless draw at home, secured their progression to the semi-finals. There, they met South Africa's Marumo Gallants. A 2-0 home win and a 2-1 away triumph ensured a 4-1 aggregate victory, propelling Yanga into the final.
The Final Against USM Alger
The two-legged final pitted Yanga against Algeria's USM Alger. The first leg, held at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on May 28, 2023, ended in a 2-1 defeat for Yanga. Aymen Mahious and Islam Merili scored for USM Alger, while Fiston Mayele netted Yanga's lone goal.
The return leg took place on June 3, 2023, at Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers. Yanga secured a 1-0 victory courtesy of an early penalty converted by Djuma Shabani. Despite this win, the aggregate score stood at 2-2. USM Alger clinched the title on the away goals rule, having scored two goals in Dar es Salaam compared to Yanga's one in Algiers

Although Yanga fell short of the championship, their historic run was celebrated across Tanzania and beyond. The players and coaching staff received silver medals as runners-up, marking a significant achievement in the club's history.
