The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa today launched Video Assistant Referee Technology (VAR) at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam
The equipment was provided by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) together with Azam Media Limited
VAR technology is expected to be used from this season of the main league in Tanzania 2024/25
Speaking at the event, the President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Wallace Karia said that the technology will help to reduce the complaints caused by referees' mistakes
"VAR will reduce complaints and human errors, we as TFF have written a letter to request permission to use VAR in our league," said Karia
In another step, Karia has said that despite the opinion of stakeholders about reducing the number of 12th foreign players, that number will continue due to the benefits that the league and the club get due to the arrival of these players
"We have decided to insist on keeping many foreign players despite many people wanting the number of foreign players to be reduced"
"The success we have had is due to the presence of foreign players who before they came our teams were not doing well in international championships"
"According to the statistics we have, foreign players have not reached 70 out of the 600 players who participate in the major league, so our players need to come out to be challenged and not us to reduce the number of foreign players," he said
