Yanga Club and Simba were the ones who should have participated in the Union Championship on the Tanzania Mainland side after finishing first and second in the NBC Premier League last season
However, Yanga asked not to participate in the championship, so their place was given to Azam Fc
It has been explained that the reasons given by Yanga were valid and that is why the Tanzania Mainland champions' request not to participate was accepted
Yanga has just participated in the Champions League, reaching the quarter finals. There are two matches in the Premier League and while the Nationals also face the quarter-final game of the CRDB Federation Cup at the beginning of May 2024
It is different from their countrymen Simba who currently have no other competitions in which they participate after they have been removed from all the championships, remaining only with the main league
In addition, even Azam Fc did not play many matches this season compared to Yanga, in the league they have no goals having played 24 matches
But also this championship is as if it has come 'suddenly', without a doubt TFF and ZFF will include it in the calendar next season as they did for the Mapinduzi Cup
Next season, the championship is expected to involve eight teams, four from the mainland and four from the islands of Zanzibar
