Last years there was a Union League that brought together teams from mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, the competition is expected to return this year
The Secretary General of the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF), Hussein Ahmada Vuai, has said that initially they will have four teams, two from mainland Tanzania and two from Zanzibar
The Yanga and Simba clubs will represent mainland Tanzania and the Zanzibar side is KMKM and KVZ. There is a high possibility of the Kariakoo derby being witnessed in the islands of Zanzibar
"It is true that the Union Cup is back and we will start with four clubs, two from mainland Tanzania and two from the islands of Zanzibar," said Vuai.
Vuai wanted the clubs to be Simba and Yanga for mainland Tanzania and KMKM and KVZ for Zanzibar. However, he has said that for this season they have started with those teams, but next year they expect to increase the number of teams and reach eight, where each side will provide four teams
"This time we have started with those teams due to the tight schedule on each side where our counterparts from mainland Tanzania are facing international competitions and the presence of AFCON affected the league schedules and there are many spoils"< /p>
The criteria they have used to find the teams is to take the first and second winner of the previous season of the Premier League on the Mainland and the Islands and that the full schedule will be released to find out who will play who, including announcing the prizes and the sponsor who will sponsor the championship

However, he has said that the teams will play in a knock-out style and the final will be played on the day of the Union celebrations on April 26, this year.
