League Board Chairman Steven Mguto said it is not proper to link football sponsorship and match fixing as disrespectful to those who support the football industry in the country
Last week a debate was sparked by some journalists questioning GSM's move to sponsor more than one team
Mguto said there is no provision that prevents a Sponsor from sponsoring more than one team
He said there is nothing wrong and should not be associated with match fixing
"In our regulations it is not wrong for one sponsor to sponsor more than one team. It should be noted that there is a big difference between match fixing and sponsoring more than one team"
"To cite sponsorship as part of match fixing is disrespecting those who volunteers their money to save our football," said Mguto
Various football stakeholders have criticized the debate sparked by a group of journalists who many believe was deliberately launched at a time when GSM sponsorship for the Yanga has been successful
Yanga have won all five league matches this season, at the top of the league standings with 15 points
