Yanga delivered a dominant performance at KMC Complex, thrashing Kagera Sugar 4-0 in an NBC Mainland Premier League encounter to send a strong message to their title rivals.
The defending champions came into the match determined to collect all three points, and their attacking intent was evident from the opening minutes. Playing at a high tempo and applying intense pressing, the Wananchi made life difficult for Kagera Sugar, particularly when the visitors tried to build attacks from the back.
Peter Shalulile thought he had given Yanga an early lead after finding the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out by the Football Video Support (FVS) system for offside.
The Namibian striker was not to be denied for long. In the 26th minute, Shalulile struck again, this time with his goal standing after he finished a cross from Maxi Nzengeli to put Yanga ahead.
Just six minutes later, the hosts doubled their advantage. Mohamed Hussein, popularly known as Zimbwe Jr, found the net after connecting with an excellent pass from Stephane Aziz Ki, sending the home supporters into celebration.
Yanga went into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead after controlling much of the opening period.
After the restart, Ibrahim Toure made a significant impact as a super-sub, scoring twice in the closing stages to complete the emphatic victory.
Toure netted his first goal in the 87th minute, rising high to head home a well-delivered cross from Zimbwe Jr.
He then completed his brace with a clever backheel in stoppage time, turning Clement Mzize's cross into Yanga's fourth goal of the evening.
The 4-0 triumph takes Yanga back to second place in the league standings and marks the Wananchi's second consecutive victory following a difficult spell.
It was a statement performance from the defending champions, who will be looking to build on this momentum as the battle for the NBC Mainland Premier League title continues.
