Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president Wallace Karia has expressed optimism that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will approve Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam to host group-stage matches of African club competitions this season.
Speaking today, Karia said TFF is continuing its efforts to ensure that the stadium meets CAF’s required standards so it can be used for the matches. However, final approval will depend on CAF’s inspection and decision.
The optimism comes as four Tanzanian clubs prepare for their respective continental campaigns. Simba SC and Young Africans (Yanga) are competing in the CAF Champions League, while Azam FC and Singida Black Stars are set to feature in the CAF Confederation Cup. If the stadium receives approval, the clubs will have an opportunity to host their home matches in Dar es Salaam.
CAF’s approval would be a welcome development for the clubs and their supporters, who would have the opportunity to watch the continental matches in Dar es Salaam.
