Zimbabwean striker Prince Dube has denied reports claiming that Simba SC have opened talks with him over a possible return to the Tanzanian Premier League, insisting that he has no intention of joining Yanga SC’s traditional rivals, a club he says holds a special place in his heart.
Speaking to Captor Sports, Dube clarified that his departure from Yanga was neither a result of being dismissed nor a lack of opportunities in the squad. Instead, he said it was his personal decision not to extend his contract so he could return to Zimbabwe and continue his football career at home.
“No, I asked the management to allow me not to extend my contract so I could return home and play football here. If I had wanted to stay, I would still be at Yanga to this day,” Dube said.
The forward stressed that his relationship with Yanga goes beyond a professional contract, explaining that the club supported him during different moments in his football career. For that reason, he said returning to Tanzania to play for Simba would go against his feelings towards Yanga and its supporters, popularly known as Wananchi.
Dube previously played for Azam FC before joining Yanga, where he established himself as one of the strikers remembered fondly by the club’s supporters. After leaving Yanga, he returned to Zimbabwe to continue his career, while reports linking him with Simba sparked debate among football fans in Tanzania.
His remarks make his position on the rumours clear, although a player’s future plans can change depending on circumstances. For now, Dube’s message to Yanga supporters is that he values the club and appreciates the contribution of its management and fans during his time in Tanzania.
