Specialised air-quality testing devices known as gas detectors have officially been introduced in Tanzania’s Mainland Premier League as part of measures to strengthen the safety of players and team officials inside dressing rooms.
In a public statement issued on October 9, 2026, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) said the devices began being used on October 8, 2026, to ensure dressing rooms provide safe conditions before and during league matches.
According to TPLB, the devices will be used to inspect air quality in dressing rooms as soon as the facilities are handed over to the respective teams, with inspections continuing until the match is completed.
The measure aims to detect gases or unusual air conditions that could endanger the health of players, technical staff and team officials using the facilities.
Inspections to Continue During Matches
TPLB explained that the procedure will be implemented at all stadiums across the country used for league matches, as part of efforts to strengthen safety management in the Mainland Premier League.
The use of gas detectors is expected to help identify potential air-quality problems early, allowing appropriate action to be taken to protect the health and safety of everyone using the dressing rooms.
TPLB Prioritises Player Safety
The board stressed that it will continue working with various football stakeholders to ensure league matches are played in safe environments and in compliance with the required safety procedures.
The measure highlights an increasing focus on ensuring that player safety is prioritised not only on the pitch but also in other areas they use before, during and after matches.
