Tanzania Prisons head coach Shadrack Nsajigwa “Fuso” says that despite the strong competition expected this season, he is determined to restore the club’s reputation and guide the Mbeya-based side back to the Tanzanian Premier League in the 2027/28 season.
Nsajigwa said his main objective is to rebuild Tanzania Prisons and ensure the club returns to the top flight, where it has traditionally competed.
Nsajigwa said the first step toward restoring the confidence of the club’s supporters is to ensure the team produces positive results on the pitch.
He believes good results will encourage supporters to return in large numbers and provide stronger backing, particularly during home matches, which he considers important in the club’s promotion campaign.
Nsajigwa joined Tanzania Prisons on February 27, 2026, from Transit Camp, replacing Kenyan coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno, who left the club on February 25, 2026, following a poor run of results.
The coach has a strong connection with Tanzania Prisons, having previously played for the club before going on to represent Yanga SC and the Tanzania national team, Taifa Stars.
During the 2025/26 Premier League season, Nsajigwa took charge of Tanzania Prisons during the latter stages of the campaign.
The team finished 13th with 32 points. That position forced Tanzania Prisons into the relegation playoffs, where they faced Mbeya City, who finished 14th with 30 points.
Tanzania Prisons were eliminated after Mbeya City won the playoff 2-0 on aggregate, forcing Prisons into another playoff to fight for their Premier League survival.
The club’s second survival opportunity came against Polisi Tanzania, who had previously eliminated Mbeya Kwanza by a convincing 7-1 aggregate score.
However, Tanzania Prisons’ survival campaign ended after they lost to Polisi Tanzania 4-1 on aggregate, confirming their relegation.
Now, following the drop to the lower division, Nsajigwa has been tasked with rebuilding Tanzania Prisons and leading the club’s campaign to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
The coach is expected to face strong competition this season, but he has emphasized the importance of building a team capable of consistently collecting points and restoring the confidence of the supporters.
For Tanzania Prisons, this season is about more than simply competing.
