Minister responsible for Sports, Paul Makonda, has said that funding has not been a barrier to preparations for the infrastructure required for AFCON 2027, noting that construction and renovation works at the stadiums are progressing well.
Makonda said the Arusha Stadium project has reached 90% completion, while the Fumba Stadium in Zanzibar has reached 85%, with construction equipment already available at the project site.
Speaking about Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Makonda said major renovations are underway in various areas, including changes to the VIP section and the addition of skyboxes.
“Arusha Stadium is at 90%, there are major changes at Benjamin Mkapa; we have renovated the VIP section and are adding skyboxes. Fumba is at 85%, and the equipment is already on site,” said Makonda.
Makonda also thanked President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for ensuring that funds are available to implement the projects, emphasizing that preparations for AFCON 2027 infrastructure have so far not been stalled due to funding issues.
Tanzania is preparing to co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Uganda, with infrastructure upgrades forming an important part of the preparations for the tournament.
