Namungo FC head coach Juma Mgunda says building a new squad requires time and patience, explaining that his team did not have enough time to prepare for the 2026/27 Tanzanian Premier League season before the campaign began.
Mgunda said making changes to the squad and bringing in new players requires time for the players to get to know each other, understand the playing system and develop an understanding on the pitch. “When you are building a new team, you need time and patience because football is a process. It is not like adding salt to food and expecting it to become tasty immediately. It is a step-by-step process,” he said.
The coach said the challenge was made more difficult by the season’s schedule, with the previous league campaign ending late while the new season started early, leaving the team with limited time for pre-season preparations. Namungo are now using the current three-week break as a semi-pre-season period to address weaknesses and mistakes identified in their opening matches.
Namungo have played seven league matches, winning two and losing five, leaving them with six points in 13th place in the standings. Mgunda is using the available time to strengthen the squad before the team returns to competitive league action.
