Simba fans have continued to show faith in their forward Ibrahim Doumbia, believing it is only a matter of time before the Mali international opens his competitive goalscoring account.
Yesterday, Doumbia was part of the Reds of Msimbazi squad that secured a convincing 6-1 victory over Mighty Wanderers in the second leg of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) preliminary round.
The victory saw Simba advance with a 7-1 aggregate win after securing a 1-0 victory in the first leg.
Despite Simba scoring plenty of goals in the match, the Msimbazi faithful are still eagerly waiting to celebrate Doumbia’s first competitive goal. The forward was presented with several opportunities against Mighty Wanderers, but failed to convert them and find the back of the net.
However, the situation has not caused Simba fans to lose faith in him. Instead, they have continued to support him, believing that his ability will eventually enable him to start scoring once he settles in and gains more confidence in front of goal.
It is only a matter of time
Some fans have said Doumbia’s failure to score in his opening matches is not a reason to start putting him under pressure. They believe the forward will continue to get opportunities and will eventually open his goalscoring account.
Doumbia also appears to be enjoying the support he is receiving from Simba fans, giving him the opportunity to play without carrying excessive pressure from outside the pitch.
Mgunda also offers hope
In the match against Mighty Wanderers, head coach Steve Barker also gave forward Ismail Mgunda an opportunity. He was signed to strengthen the attack following the departure of Suleiman Mwalimu, who joined Yanga one day before the transfer window closed.
Mgunda played for a short period, but showed enough quality to give Simba fans hope that he can become an important option in the team’s attack.
