Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has said their 1-0 victory over Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round has not made them feel that the job is already done.
Barker stressed that they need to produce an even better performance in the second leg.
Simba secured an away victory in the first leg in Malawi, a result that puts them in a strong position ahead of tomorrow’s second leg, Sunday, September 13, at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the match, Barker said an away win is an important result, but his squad must not become complacent because of the advantage. Instead, they need to raise their level in front of their home supporters.
“We need to show an even better performance in front of our fans. The objective is to win and advance to the next stage, which will give us an opportunity to fight for a place in the group stage this season,” Barker said.
Barker said Simba’s objective is to secure a result that will see them progress in the competition, while targeting qualification for the group stage this season.
Libasse Gueye Returns
Meanwhile, Barker said the return of forward Libasse Gueye, who missed the first leg against Mighty Wanderers, has boosted morale within the squad.
The coach explained that Gueye’s presence is an important addition to the team because of his significance to Simba’s tactical plans.
Simba will take to the Uhuru Stadium pitch tomorrow seeking a result that will enable them to advance to the next round of the CAF Champions League and continue their pursuit of a place in the group stage.
