The government has said that the National Festival will serve as an important platform for protecting, preserving and promoting Tanzanian culture, while also strengthening patriotism and national unity, fostering the creative economy, creating employment and business opportunities, and promoting Tanzania through cultural tourism.
Speaking on the preparations for the festival, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Arts, Culture and Sports and Government Chief Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, said the festival is expected to take place in Morogoro Region from August 25 to 29, 2026.
Msigwa said the festival will bring together various stakeholders in the cultural and creative sectors, including 28 cultural groups, 30 artists, 70 entrepreneurs and 5,000 young people.
He said the participation of these groups will provide an opportunity for individuals and organizations to showcase their talents, products and creative works, while giving the public a chance to learn about and enjoy the richness of Tanzania’s diverse cultural heritage.
According to Msigwa, the festival is also part of the government’s efforts to ensure that Tanzanian culture gains greater recognition both locally and internationally, while using culture as a source of economic opportunities, employment and business, particularly for young people.
He also encouraged citizens to turn up in large numbers and participate in the National Festival, where they will have an opportunity to experience and learn about different aspects of Tanzanian culture, including traditional dances, traditional foods and traditional clothing.
In addition to entertainment and cultural exhibitions, the festival will feature a national dialogue focusing on empowering young people to participate in protecting moral values, an initiative the government believes will help build a generation that values its culture and national moral principles.
The government continues to emphasize the importance of culture in strengthening national unity and supporting economic growth, with the National Festival expected to serve as a platform that brings together culture, creativity, business and tourism for the benefit of Tanzanians.
