Yanga SC management is continuing its search for a new head coach to replace Pedro Gonçalves, after initial plans to bring in Fadlu Davids reportedly hit a setback and eventually collapsed.
The Tanzanian Mainland champions had been in advanced talks with Davids, who has previously coached Raja Casablanca in Morocco and Simba SC in Tanzania, with the intention of entrusting him with leading the squad into the upcoming domestic and continental competitions.
Reasons for the Breakdown in Talks
According to South African football journalist and analyst Ayabonga Mthembu, the two parties failed to reach an agreement due to financial differences, particularly regarding the structure of salary payments and performance bonuses.
Reports indicate that negotiations had progressed well before stalling at the final stages of the contract discussions, ultimately leading Yanga to halt talks for the time being.
Following the collapse of the deal, Yanga are now continuing their search for a new head coach who will be tasked with completing the club’s project for the upcoming season.
It is reported that a new appointment could be confirmed within the next few days, possibly before the end of the week, as the club continues to assess candidates on its shortlist.
Uncertainty Over Interim Technical Bench
Meanwhile, Yanga have yet to issue an official statement regarding the future of the interim technical bench led by coaches Abdihamid Moallin and Patrick Mabedi.
The duo guided Yanga in the final seven matches of the season, losing two — one in the NBC Premier League against Dodoma Jiji and another in the CRDB Cup semi-final against Azam FC.
Despite those setbacks, they successfully achieved the club’s main objective by securing a fifth consecutive league title for Yanga.
