The German Football Association (DFB) is expected to enter a new era after reports that head coach Julian Nagelsmann has left his position following Germany’s poor campaign at the 2026 World Cup.
Nagelsmann’s tenure reportedly came to an end after Germany were eliminated early by Paraguay in the Round of 32, a result that significantly increased pressure on the DFB leadership.
Although the federation has not yet issued an official statement regarding his successor, Jürgen Klopp has emerged as the frontrunner to take over the national team.
Klopp, who is currently working within the Red Bull football system as Global Head of Soccer, is reported to be open to considering an offer from the DFB if formal talks begin. Reports suggest that the terms of his current contract could allow him to leave if he is called to manage the German national team.
The 59-year-old coach has long been considered a long-term candidate for the role due to his success at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, where he won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and several other major trophies.
However, no official agreement has yet been reached between Klopp and the DFB. Current reports indicate that discussions are expected to take place in the coming days, as the federation looks to appoint a coach capable of restoring Germany’s status after three consecutive disappointing World Cup campaigns.
If Klopp accepts the role, he would face the major task of rebuilding the Die Mannschaft squad and restoring competitiveness to one of the most historically successful national teams in world football.
