Chelsea and Sunderland are expected to resume fresh talks today over the potential transfer of Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka, with senior officials from both clubs remaining in direct contact. Although the deal is understood to be complicated, negotiations have not broken down.
According to reports from Europe, Xhaka is keen to return to London and reunite with manager Xabi Alonso, who is said to be eager to include the experienced midfielder in his Chelsea squad for the new season.
The Swiss international is reportedly willing to accept any contract terms necessary to complete a move back to Stamford Bridge and begin a new chapter in his career under Alonso.
Chelsea believe Xhaka's experience, leadership, and quality in midfield would be a valuable addition to the club's new project, with Alonso viewing him as one of the players capable of bringing stability, composure, and a winning mentality to the team.
However, no formal agreement has yet been reached, and both parties are continuing to negotiate the final details of the transfer. If today's discussions prove successful, Xhaka could become one of Chelsea's surprise signings of the summer transfer window.
