Ali Kamwe has sparked widespread discussion in Tanzanian football after openly declaring that Yanga will support Azam FC in the CRDB Bank Federation Cup final against Simba SC.
Kamwe made the statement during a post-match press conference following a Premier League fixture between Yanga SC and Azam FC in Zanzibar. Despite the rivalry between the clubs, the Yanga spokesperson said the club would not hesitate to back Azam in the final against their traditional rivals, Simba.
Turning to Azam FC's Information Officer, Thabit Zakaria, popularly known as "Zakazakazi," in front of reporters, Kamwe said: “Zakazakazi, we're together in the final. Put Kitambala here, Ngita here, all together.”
The remark drew laughter, applause, and intense discussion among journalists and football fans following the event. Many interpreted the comments as a clear indication that Yanga would like to see Azam prevent Simba from winning the trophy.
Azam FC reached the final after eliminating Yanga with a 3–2 victory in the semifinal played in Mwanza, while Simba SC secured their place by defeating Coastal Union. This set up a final showdown with Azam on July 4, 2026.
The final is now expected to be one of the most emotionally charged matches of the season, with Azam chasing a major title and Simba looking to add another trophy to their collection. Ali Kamwe's comments have already added extra spice to the occasion, leaving football fans across Tanzania eagerly anticipating the July 4 clash.
