Tunisia’s hopes in the 2026 FIFA World Cup have come to a disappointing end after suffering a heavy 4–0 defeat to Japan in a Group F match played on Sunday, June 21.
The result leaves Tunisia bottom of the group after losing their second consecutive match, having previously been beaten 5–1 by Sweden. The two defeats mean they have conceded nine goals in just two games, highlighting major defensive weaknesses.
Japan started the match at a high tempo, dominating possession from the opening minutes. Their constant attacking pressure forced Tunisia deep into their own half, with the defense struggling to cope with the pace and movement of their opponents.
Daichi Kamada opened the scoring in the 4th minute, before Ayase Ueda added two goals and Junya Ito completed the 4–0 victory.
Tunisia attempted to respond through counterattacks but failed to create enough clear chances to trouble Japan’s defense.
The defeat strengthens Japan’s position in the group as they move closer to securing a place in the round of 16, while Tunisia remain without a point after two matches.
Fans of Tunisia were left disappointed after the final whistle, with many feeling the team failed to deliver the level expected at such a major tournament. The early exit marks a major setback for a nation that had high hopes heading into the competition.
Tunisia had been defensively solid during qualification, where they went unbeaten in 10 matches, winning nine and drawing one. However, they have now conceded nine goals in just two World Cup matches.
