Kaseja Leads Kagera Sugar Back to the Premier League as Geita Gold Secure Promotion

Coach Juma Kaseja has successfully guided Kagera Sugar back to the Tanzania Mainland Premier League for next season after the team recorded an important 3-0 victory over KenGold in a Matchday 28 Championship fixture.

The result capped off an impressive campaign for Kagera Sugar, who moved to 68 points and secured automatic promotion before the end of the season.

Kagera Sugar’s achievement was further strengthened by the disappointing result of their closest rivals, Polisi Tanzania, who lost to Mbuni FC. That defeat means Polisi can only reach a maximum of 66 points from their remaining two matches, making it impossible for them to catch Kagera Sugar.

It marks a major accomplishment for Kaseja, who in his first season as head coach has demonstrated his ability to build a highly competitive team. Since the start of the campaign, Kagera Sugar have been among the Championship’s standout sides, combining consistent performances with impressive results.

In 28 matches played so far, Kagera Sugar have recorded 21 wins, five draws, and only two defeats, a remarkable record that highlights their dominance in the race for promotion.

While Kagera Sugar celebrate their return to the top flight, Geita Gold FC have also achieved promotion after defeating Songea United 3-1 at Nyankumbu Stadium in Geita.

The victory moved Geita Gold to 71 points, securing a place in the Championship’s top two positions, which guarantee automatic qualification to the Tanzania Mainland Premier League for the 2026/27 season.

The club has shown remarkable consistency throughout the campaign and has spent much of the season among the league leaders, enabling them to achieve their objective of an immediate return to the top division.

The promotion of both Geita Gold and Kagera Sugar is expected to add greater competition to next season’s Premier League, with both clubs likely to use the experience gained in the Championship to build squads capable of competing at the highest level.

For Kagera Sugar, this success is a significant credit to the technical bench led by Juma Kaseja, who has transformed the team in a short period and guided it back to where many believe it belongs.
