Liverpool FC and Arne Slot Part Ways After Disappointing 2025/26 Season

Liverpool FC have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of their head coach Arne Slot, officially ending his tenure at Anfield.

According to reports, the decision was made today, May 30, 2026, following an underwhelming run of form during the 2025/26 season, despite high expectations after his earlier success at the club.

Slot, who took over after the departure of Jürgen Klopp, managed to guide Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season, significantly raising expectations among Anfield supporters.

However, the second season proved more difficult, with Liverpool experiencing inconsistent results and a noticeable drop in performance levels. This created growing pressure on both the coaching staff and club management.

Reasons Behind the Contract Termination

Reports indicate that Liverpool’s leadership opted for an immediate change in order to restore the club’s competitiveness in the Premier League and European competitions.

Despite significant investment of over £400 million in new player signings, the team has struggled to maintain consistency and winning momentum, which ultimately accelerated the decision to part ways.

Arne Slot’s Contribution to Liverpool

During his time in charge, Slot made a strong impression at the club by restoring Liverpool’s competitiveness both domestically and in Europe.

He was also praised for his close relationship with players and his ability to quickly adapt tactical systems, earning him respect in a relatively short period.

However, challenges in his second season and inconsistent results ultimately became a major obstacle to his continued stay at Anfield.

Who Could Replace Him?

Following the announcement, several names have already been linked with the vacant position. Andoni Iraola, currently managing AFC Bournemouth, is reportedly the leading candidate.

Iraola has attracted attention from Liverpool’s hierarchy due to his attacking football philosophy and his ability to develop young players.
