Drama at Isamuhyo: Simba and Yanga Share Points in Thrilling 2-2 Derby

The high-profile NBC Premier League clash between Simba and Yanga at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Mbweni, Dar es Salaam ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw, a result that leaves mixed emotions for both sides.

Simba started the match at an incredible pace, showing clear intent to secure an early victory. It took just two minutes for them to break the deadlock, as Libasse Gueye finished off a fine pass from Clatous Chama. Simba’s high pressing unsettled Yanga’s defense, forcing errors that led to the early goal.

In the 8th minute, Simba doubled their lead through Chama, who scored one of the goals of the season after a brilliant combination with Elie Mpanzu that sliced through Yanga’s defense. At that point, Simba appeared to be in full control of the match.

However, after going two goals ahead, Simba seemed to ease off, allowing Yanga back into the game. The visitors capitalized on the opportunity, with Prince Dube pulling one back in the 18th minute after a well-worked attacking move.

Despite Yanga’s growing pressure, Simba managed to head into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

The second half began with a different intensity, as Yanga returned with renewed energy and determination to equalize. Their efforts paid off in the 50th minute when Bakari Mwamnyeto scored after reacting quickest to a rebound from goalkeeper Djibril Kassali, following a cross by Pacome Zouzoua.

After leveling the score, the match opened up, with both teams creating several chances. Simba had clear opportunities but failed to convert, while Yanga also came close to finding a winner, particularly through Dube in the 76th minute.

In the end, the match finished 2-2. For Simba, it feels like two points dropped at home after leading by two goals, while for Yanga, the result feels like a victory given their strong comeback.
