No Official Change as AFCON 2027 Remains Set for East Africa

Reports circulating online have claimed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) could be moved to South Africa, but there has been no official confirmation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) supporting those claims.

According to CAF’s confirmed plans, AFCON 2027 is still scheduled to be jointly hosted by the East African nations of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, as preparations continue for one of the continent’s biggest football tournaments.

This marks the first time in AFCON history that the tournament has been awarded to three countries from the region, as part of CAF’s broader strategy to spread major competitions across different zones and boost sports infrastructure development.

In recent days, however, discussions have emerged regarding preparation challenges, particularly around infrastructure and the pace of stadium upgrades in some host areas. These concerns have fueled speculation about possible changes to the hosting arrangements.

Despite the rumors, CAF has not made any official announcement about relocating AFCON 2027 to South Africa or any other country. Officials have continued to emphasize that preparations are ongoing and that the tournament remains set to be hosted in East Africa as originally planned.
