Kenya Completes Payment to Host AFCON 2027 in Historic East African Collaboration

In a major development for East Africa’s sports sector, the Kenyan government has completed the payment of the hosting fee for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, submitting KSh 3.9 billion (USD 30 million) to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This follows significant pressure and the risk of losing the opportunity to be among the hosts for the AFCON 2027 finals, in collaboration with Tanzania and Uganda.

Kenya’s Sports Minister, Salim Mvurya, confirmed on Wednesday, March 31, 2026, that the government had completed the payment before the March 30 deadline, stating that the move demonstrates the country’s commitment to successfully hosting AFCON 2027 within Kenya’s borders.

"By fulfilling our obligation, the Government of Kenya has submitted the AFCON hosting fee to CAF, affirming our credibility, capacity, and firm commitment to deliver a top-class tournament," Mvurya said in a statement.

The fee payment is part of the joint "Together AFCON 2027" agreement, under which Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will collaborate to host the highly anticipated tournament, scheduled from June 19 to July 18, 2027—a historic milestone for East Africa.
