The NBC Premier League match between Azam FC and Simba, famously known as the Mzizima Derby, scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2026, will be played at the Azam Complex in Chamazi.
Azam FC, the hosts, have chosen to use their home stadium, Azam Complex, instead of the usual Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Earlier, there were rumors that the match would be held at 'Lupaso' as usual, but despite government approval for the use of Mkapa Stadium for certain matches, the “Ice Cream” sellers (Azam FC) opted to hold the match in Chamazi, prioritizing the pursuit of three points over revenue.
The first round match played on December 7, 2025, when Simba hosted, took place at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, with Azam FC emerging victorious 2-0.
This time, the teams meet again, each needing three points to improve their position in the Premier League race.
Azam FC and Simba are separated by just two points in the league standings, with Simba in second place on 31 points and Azam FC in third with 29 points.
However, Azam FC have played one more match than Simba, increasing their need to win in order to close the points gap with their rivals.
Azam FC, led by coach Florent Ibenge, have been strong this season, finishing the first round of 15 matches unbeaten.
Only Azam FC and Yanga remain undefeated in the Premier League this season. However, they now face a stronger Simba, boosted by improvements made during the recent transfer window.
The arrival of coach Steve Barker and new signings including Ismael Toure, Libasse Gueye, Anicet Oura, Inno Loemba, and Clatous Chama has strengthened Simba.
After missing out on the Premier League title for four consecutive seasons, the Msimbazi Reds are determined to win the championship this season, a trophy that has long been in the cabinets of their traditional rivals, Yanga SC.
