Tanzania Shocked by Liechtenstein in FIFA Series Defeat

The Tanzania national team (Taifa Stars) suffered a setback after losing 1-0 to Liechtenstein in a FIFA Series match played on March 26, 2026, at Kigali Pelé Stadium.

The only goal of the match was scored by Liechtenstein forward Ferhat Salam in the 56th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error by Tanzania.

In the first half, both teams played cautiously, creating chances but failing to score. Tanzania appeared to dominate possession but lacked sharpness in the final third.

The second half began with higher intensity, but it was Liechtenstein who made their key opportunity count, scoring what proved to be the winning goal. After conceding, Tanzania increased their attacking efforts and made several substitutions, but they were unable to find an equalizer.

Taifa Stars head coach Miguel Gamondi made tactical changes to strengthen the attack, but Liechtenstein’s defense remained solid until the final whistle.

The result comes as a surprise for Tanzania, considering Liechtenstein’s relatively modest record in international football. However, the win is significant for Liechtenstein in the FIFA Series, a competition designed to give teams from different continents valuable competitive experience.

For Tanzania, the defeat highlights key lessons—particularly the need to be more clinical in front of goal and to improve defensive organization ahead of upcoming matches.

Taifa Stars are set to return to action on March 29, where they will face Macau in their next FIFA Series fixture.
