The Football Federation of Burundi (FFB) has taken a strategic step by seeking technical support from Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze ahead of their crucial AFCON 2027 qualification matches against Chad.
This move highlights Burundiās determination to prepare thoroughly for the early stages of the continental qualifiers.
Cedric Kaze Joins as Technical Advisor
According to recent reports, Cedric Kaze has joined the Burundi national team as a Technical Advisor on a short-term basis during the international break.
The federation reportedly obtained permission from Kaizer Chiefs to secure the services of the experienced coach.
Kaze is expected to support the technical bench in preparations and tactical planning for the two decisive matches against Chad, which will determine Burundiās progress in the AFCON 2027 race.
Key Matches Against Chad
Burundi will face Chad in the preliminary qualification round, with:
- The first leg scheduled for March 25
- The return leg set for March 31
These matches are expected to be highly competitive, with both teams aiming to secure qualification.
Kazeās Experience a Major Boost
Cedric Kaze is no stranger to Burundian football. Before his success at club and international level, he played a significant role within the national team setup from youth to senior level between 2007 and 2015.
His achievements include:
- Leading AtlƩtico Olympic to two consecutive league titles
- Winning Coach of the Year awards twice in a row
- Serving as assistant coach at Yanga for two seasons alongside head coach Nasreddine Nabi, winning domestic trophies and guiding the club to the CAF Confederation Cup final
This experience places him in a strong position to help Burundi achieve positive results in the upcoming matches.
However, Kazeās role with the national team is temporary and required approval from Kaizer Chiefs. The current league schedule has allowed him to take on this responsibility without significantly affecting his club duties.
