Real Madrid Strengthen Title Hopes with 4–1 Win Over Elche

Real Madrid secured an important 4–1 victory against Elche CF in a La Liga match played on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The win keeps Real Madrid applying pressure in the Spanish league title race, just one point behind leaders Barcelona.

Real Madrid opened the scoring in the 38th minute through defender Antonio Rüdiger, who converted a free-kick taken by Federico Valverde that hit the wall and rebounded into the danger area. In the 44th minute, midfielder Federico Valverde added a second with a powerful long-range shot, giving Madrid a 2–0 lead at halftime.

The second half started with increased pressure from the hosts, and in the 65th minute, young defender Dean Huijsen scored Real Madrid’s third goal with a header following a cross from the right wing.

Elche CF scored their only goal in the 84th minute when Real Madrid midfielder Manuel Ángel inadvertently headed the ball into his own net while trying to clear a dangerous pass. However, Real Madrid sealed their victory in the 88th minute with a spectacular long-range goal from midfielder Arda Güler, beating the goalkeeper who had come off his line.

In another match that day, Atlético Madrid narrowly defeated Getafe CF 1–0 at Metropolitano Stadium.

The only goal of the match was scored by Nahuel Molina in the first half, giving the hosts three crucial points in the race for the top positions in the league.

The game was also marked by a controversial incident when Abdel Abqar of Getafe was shown a red card in the 55th minute for a VAR-detected foul on striker Alexander Sørloth, who received a yellow card in retaliation.

With these results, Real Madrid remain in the title hunt in La Liga, while Atlético Madrid hold third place in the standings.
