Morocco’s RS Berkane were held to a 1–1 draw by Sudan’s Al Hilal Omdurman in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals played on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane.
The match was highly competitive, with both teams pushing for an advantage ahead of the return leg scheduled for next week.
Visitors Al Hilal took an early lead in the 13th minute when striker Abu Aqla Omer finished off a well-delivered pass from Abdelraouf Yagoub, giving the Sudanese side hope of securing an important away result.
Following the goal, Berkane intensified their attacks in search of an equalizer but faced a solid defensive performance from Al Hilal, who managed to hold their lead for much of the match.
However, the hosts finally broke through in stoppage time after being awarded a penalty. Striker Youssef Mehri stepped up and converted from the spot to level the score at 1–1.
The late equalizer leaves the tie finely balanced ahead of the return leg, where both teams will battle for a place in the semi-finals.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competition schedule, the winner of the tie between RS Berkane and Al Hilal will face the winner of the quarter-final clash between AS FAR Rabat and Pyramids FC in the semi-finals.
The CAF Champions League quarter-finals continue today with another major fixture as Tunisia’s Esperance Sportive de Tunis face record champions Al Ahly of Egypt.
