Yanga SC have written to the League Board seeking a detailed explanation regarding the punishment issued by the 72-hour committee to Simba player Selemani Mwalimu.
Speaking during a press conference earlier today, Yangaâs Information and Communications Manager Ali Kamwe said the club submitted an official letter after noticing what they described as inconsistencies in the application of regulations when handling similar offenses.
Kamwe explained that while five other players this season were suspended for five matches for similar offenses under regulation 41:21, Mwalimu received only a three-match suspension under regulation 41:5(5.2).
Yanga has asked the League Board to clearly explain the âspecial circumstancesâ surrounding Mwalimuâs incident that led the 72-hour committee to issue a lighter punishment compared to the stance taken in previous similar cases.
âWe have written to the League Board seeking a detailed explanation regarding the punishment issued by the 72-hour committee to player Selemani Mwalimu. This season, five players have been suspended for five matches for an offense similar to Mwalimuâs, yet he has been suspended for only three matches.â
âWe want the League Board to clarify what was unique about Mwalimuâs incident that led the 72-hour committee to apply regulation 41:5(5.2), while the other five cases were handled under regulation 41:21.â
âSecondly, we have asked the League Board to explain why the 72-hour committee delayed its meeting, contrary to the regulations, to review the incidents and deliver verdicts, including the case involving player Selemani Mwalimu.â
âIn previous matches, this 72-hour committee met on time and delivered its decisions. What challenges caused the delay in this case?â Kamwe said.
