The NBC Premier League match between Azam FC and Yanga, originally scheduled for March 15, has been moved to the Azam Complex after Benjamin Mkapa Stadium was closed for renovations.
Azam FC’s Information and Communications Manager, Thabit Zakaria ‘Zaka Zakazi,’ confirmed that the first league meeting between the two sides this season will now be played at the Azam Complex.
“The match will be played here at our home ground and not at Mkapa as usual. We warmly welcome fans to come and witness a big and exciting game,” said Zaka Zakazi.
Last season, both Mainland Premier League matches between the two teams were played at the same venue. In the first round, Azam won 1-0 through a goal by Gibril Sillah, while in the second round Yanga secured a 2-1 victory. Yanga’s goals were scored by Pacome Zouzoua and Prince Dube, while Lusajo Mwaikenda netted for Azam.
Currently, Azam sit fifth in the league standings with 23 points, while Yanga lead the table with 29 points. Both teams have played 11 matches.
Before the derby, both sides will play three matches each, including two league fixtures and one FA Cup game.
On March 5, Yanga will face Singida Black Stars, while Azam take on Tanzania Prisons in league matches, both away from home.
On March 8, both teams will be at home in the FA Cup Round of 32, with Yanga facing Polisi Tanzania and Azam playing against Mbeya Kwanza.
On March 11, Azam will travel to face Dodoma Jiji, followed by Yanga’s away match against Tanzania Prisons on March 12.
