Real Madrid Stumble in Title Race After 2–1 Defeat to CA Osasuna

Real Madrid have found themselves in a difficult position in the La Liga title race after suffering a 2–1 defeat to CA Osasuna on Saturday night, February 21, 2026.

The match, played at El Sadar Stadium, was fiercely contested from the opening minutes, with the hosts showing clear determination to secure victory in front of their home supporters.

Osasuna took the lead in the 38th minute through a penalty converted by striker Ante Budimir. The spot-kick was awarded after the referee consulted VAR following a controversial incident inside Madrid’s penalty area.

Real Madrid responded strongly in the second half and equalized in the 73rd minute through Brazilian star Vinicius Junior, who finished neatly after a quick pass from midfield. The goal restored hope for the visitors and increased the pressure on the home side.

However, Madrid’s hopes were dashed in stoppage time when Raúl García scored the winning goal for Osasuna, a strike that was also confirmed after another VAR review. The final whistle saw Osasuna celebrating a crucial victory while Madrid left the pitch disappointed.

Despite the defeat, Real Madrid remain top of the table with 60 points, but their lead is now under serious threat. FC Barcelona, currently in second place, are set to face Levante UD later today.

If Barcelona win their match, they will move to the top of the standings and overtake Madrid, further intensifying the title race as the season enters its decisive stages.
