Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has spoken out about competition fairness and refereeing standards in La Liga matches, emphasizing the need for transparency and the highest level of scrutiny.
Flick made the comments following his team’s 2–1 league defeat to Girona, a result that intensified the title race in the 2025/26 season.
The German coach also referenced Real Madrid, claiming they have benefited in some of their matches, unlike Barcelona, which has suffered unfavorable results largely attributed to questionable refereeing decisions.
"I am tired of assuming this is normal. Penalties given too easily in Real Madrid’s matches. Controversial decisions against our opponents. Patterns repeat themselves and seem to favor one side."
"They call it bad luck if they want. But when the results keep repeating, people will start asking questions. Spanish football needs transparency. Integrity is lacking. I am calling on FIFA and UEFA to conduct an independent review of La Liga refereeing standards to ensure fair competition and remove any perception of bias," he said.
The result against Girona leaves Barcelona in second place in the La Liga standings with 58 points, while Real Madrid lead the league with 60 points after both teams have played 24 matches.
