CAF Club Competitions Return as Tanzanian Teams Face Tough Tests

After a break of several weeks to allow for the 2025 AFCON tournament, which concluded last weekend with Senegal emerging as champions, CAF club competitions — the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) and the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) — return this weekend.

Tanzania’s representatives in the CAF Champions League, Yanga, are in action away from home today as they face the competition’s historic champions, Al Ahly.

The highly anticipated clash, eagerly awaited by football fans across Africa, will kick off at 7:00 pm at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Egypt.

Yanga arrived in Egypt the night before last, giving coach Pedro Goncalves’ squad two days to prepare for the match.

Another CAF Champions League match will be played at 9:00 pm, with Mamelodi Sundowns hosting Sudan’s Al Hilal.

On Saturday, Tanzania’s other CAF Champions League representatives, Simba, will be in action in Tunis where they will take on Esperance.

This is a very crucial match for Simba, who must avoid defeat to keep their hopes of qualifying for the quarterfinals alive.

Simba, who are in Group D, made a slow start by losing their first two matches and now need to begin collecting points.

In the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC), Tanzania’s representatives Azam FC and Singida Black Stars will be in action on Sunday.

Azam FC will be away in Kenya to face Nairobi United, while Singida Black Stars will play at the New Amaan Complex against Otoho.
