Yanga SC’s Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, has said the Community Shield match between Yanga and Simba carries special importance since the proceeds will go towards supporting orphans and those in need.
Kamwe stressed that the game should be played as scheduled on September 16, but if necessary, Yanga are ready for it to be held earlier on September 12, coinciding with the climax of the club’s Mwananchi Week celebrations.
Confusion has surrounded the match after reports emerged that Simba had requested a postponement, as they are set to play a CAF Champions League preliminary round match in Botswana on September 20.
Kamwe clarified that Yanga have no issue with the official date and are ready to play, but if changes must be made, the fixture should be moved forward to September 12 to avoid complications.
“The Community Shield is very important because the revenue will go to help the community. That’s why we (Yanga) are ready to play on the scheduled date,” Kamwe said.
“But I’ve heard that our rivals requested a postponement due to their Champions League schedule. In my opinion, the game should go ahead as planned.”
“We also have a match in Angola, but I believe the available time is enough for the team to travel and prepare, since Angola and Botswana are only a few hours apart.”
“However, if it’s not possible, we already have a game against Bandari FC on September 12 during Mwananchi Week. We’re ready to stop that fixture so the Community Shield can be played on that day instead,” he added.
