After weeks of speculation, the truth has finally emerged: former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach, Romain Folz, is set to be officially announced as the new head coach of Yanga SC.
The 35-year-old French coach returns to CAF Champions League football through this major deal with the East African football giants, who finished the 2024/25 season having won all domestic titles.
It is reported that Yanga SC President, Engineer Hersi Ally Said, received strong recommendations to hire Folz from Arsène Wenger, FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development, during a recent meeting at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Sources within the club reveal that Folz is already in the country and may be officially unveiled next week to formally replace Miloud Hamdi, who recently joined Egyptian Premier League side Ismaily.
Folz arrives at Yanga with a unique coaching background, having served various clubs and national teams in roles including Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Technical Director.
He most recently managed Olympique Akbou of Algeria, helping them retain their top-flight status over the final eight matches of last season. His previous stints include Township Rollers, Marumo Gallants, AmaZulu, and Horoya AC.
By joining Yanga, Folz embarks on a new chapter in his coaching career—one expected to be both challenging and full of promise, especially in maintaining Yanga SC's dominance in African football.
