Simba SC executives are in the market for a new international goalkeeper, and if they succeed in this pursuit, the future of current first-choice goalkeeper Moussa Camara will be in doubt.
Starting next season, new regulations will prohibit clubs from having more than one foreign goalkeeper.
Despite winning the NBC Premier League’s Golden Glove award last season with 19 clean sheets — equaling the record set by Aishi Manula in the 2017/18 season — Camara might still be penalized for a few costly errors in key matches. If Simba had secured better results in those games, the narrative could have been very different.
Camara joined Simba at the start of the 2024–2025 season from Horoya AC of Guinea. He became the club’s number one goalkeeper following a long-term injury to Ayoub Lakred, who was removed from the squad for the remainder of the season.
Though he showcased solid performances, Camara made some mistakes in both league and international matches.
He featured in all of Simba’s continental fixtures, including the CAF Confederation Cup final, which the club lost to RS Berkane of Morocco.
In the league, Camara played 28 out of 30 matches, totaling 2,520 minutes, finishing with a league-best 19 clean sheets and conceding 13 goals.
Among his costly mistakes was in the October 19, 2024 league match against Yanga. A free kick by Clatous Chama in the 86th minute appeared to be going out, but Camara retrieved it, only for Maxi Nzengeli to quickly play it in to Kelvin Kijili, who scored an own goal — the only goal of the match that gave Yanga a 1-0 win.
On June 25, 2025, he left his goal line and fouled Pacome Zouzoua, leading to the first goal in a 2-0 defeat.
Earlier, in a 2-2 draw with Coastal Union on October 4, 2024, he committed two errors after Simba was leading 2-0, which resulted in goals and the eventual draw.
Following a recent board meeting in Dar es Salaam, Simba approved the search for a new goalkeeper with the attributes and qualifications endorsed by the technical bench. However, if they fail to secure one, Camara will retain his position.
Nevertheless, it's clear that Camara will need to address the weaknesses that surfaced to ensure he remains a reliable asset for Simba’s ambitions to win titles.
