Simba SC’s leadership continues to remain silent regarding the highly anticipated NBC Premier League clash against arch-rivals Yanga, scheduled for June 25, 2025.
With only two days left until the match, no Simba official has publicly commented on the fixture, despite head coach Fadlu Davids confirming that his squad is preparing for the Wednesday showdown.
Speaking after Simba’s final home game — a 1-0 victory over Kagera Sugar — Fadlu hinted that the squad changes he made in that match were part of his strategy in preparation for the Kariakoo derby.
However, Simba Chairman Murtaza Mangungu declined to discuss the upcoming match, emphasizing that Simba is a football club focused on playing football and has no fear of any opponent.
When approached for comment, Simba’s Media and Communications Manager, Ahmed Ali, said that Simba had just completed its last home match of the NBC Premier League 2024/25 season. He added that fans would be informed if there was any update regarding the June 25 match.
“Once the fixture is released, there’s no need to confirm whether you’ll play or not — you simply begin preparing. Let me take this opportunity to inform Wanasimba that if there’s anything concerning the match on the 25th, we will communicate it,” he said.
“But for now, I can confirm that we’ve played our final home game of the NBC 2024/25 league season,” Ahmed added.
Today, a press conference involving the technical bench and team spokespeople is expected to take place — usually held one day before the match. The purpose seems to be to confirm whether Simba will actually participate in the derby.
If Simba fails to send any representatives to today’s press conference and subsequently skips tomorrow’s pre-match meeting, it could indicate that the club may not show up for the game.
However, it’s also possible that Simba might skip both media events but still appear at the stadium on Wednesday, as the penalty for missing pre-match meetings is merely a fine.
