The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has implemented significant leadership changes following the departure of two key officials — the Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer — who vacated their positions for different reasons on June 13, 2025.
In an effort to maintain operational continuity, TPLB has appointed its Vice Chairman, Nassor Idrissa ‘Father’ — who is also the Chairman of Azam FC — as Acting Chairman of the Board. This follows the official resignation of former Chairman Steven Mnguto, who stepped down via letter late last week.
Meanwhile, the role of Chief Executive Officer has been temporarily filled by Ibrahim Mwayela, who previously served as the Board’s Finance Manager. Mwayela assumes the acting CEO role following the suspension of Almas Kasongo by the President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Wallace Karia.
In an official letter to all member clubs, the TPLB stated:
“The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) wishes to inform you that the Vice Chairman of the TPLB, Nassor Idrissa, will act as Chairman of the Board in accordance with Article 33:5 of the TPLB Governance Regulations.”
“In a separate development, TPLB’s Finance Manager, CPA Ibrahim Mwayela, has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following the suspension of Almas Kasongo last weekend. The Board expects the full cooperation of your club with these officials.”
