Former Yanga and Taifa Stars Star Ally Mayay Declares Candidacy for TFF Presidency

Former Yanga SC and Taifa Stars star Ally Mayay has officially declared his intention to run for the presidency of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) in the upcoming general elections set to take place on August 16, 2025, in the city of Tanga.

Mayay, known for his patriotism, prowess both on and off the field, and strong influence in national football discussions, enters the race with a vision to bring significant reforms to the management of the sport.

For a long time, fans and football stakeholders have been calling for leadership that prioritizes grassroots football development, and Mayay now appears to be responding to that call.

Despite going through a difficult mourning period following the recent passing of his father in the Tabora region, today at 1:00 PM, his representative will collect the nomination forms on his behalf — a sign of his firm commitment to actively participate in this historic election.

This will be his second time competing against the current TFF President, Wallace Karia. In the previous election, Mayay collected nomination forms but was disqualified on the grounds of not possessing a secondary school certificate, even though he holds a Master’s degree from a university.

Mayay is not a new name in the country’s football scene. In addition to his successful career playing for Yanga, he served the national team, Taifa Stars, with great patriotism.

After retiring from football, he became a respected sports analyst, an advocate for players' rights, and also served as the Acting Director of Sports Development in Tanzania.
