The Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court has sentenced KenGold Football Club’s Communications Officer, Joseph Mkoko (34), to a fine of Sh1 million or two years in prison after being found guilty of soliciting and receiving a bribe.
Mkoko was accused of soliciting a bribe of Sh1.5 million from a former player of Burundi’s Vital’O football team in exchange for helping him get signed by KenGold and securing a place in the team’s starting lineup.
However, the accused has managed to pay the fine and thus avoided the two-year prison sentence. The ruling was delivered today, Wednesday, June 11, 2025, by Senior Resident Magistrate Beda Nyaki, after the accused pleaded guilty to the charges.
The accused entered his guilty plea when the case was called for the reading of preliminary hearing notes. Before the notes were read, the charges were re-read to him as a reminder, at which point he admitted to the offenses, leading the court to convict him.
After the conviction, Magistrate Nyaki delivered the sentence. In the main case, the accused is facing criminal case number 13138 of 2025, which includes two charges: soliciting and receiving a bribe.
The communications officer is alleged to have committed the offenses between December 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, in the Kibaha area, Pwani Region.
