At the peak of African football entertainment, yesterday Tanzania's Simba Club made history by qualifying for the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup after emerging with a 4-1 penalty shootout victory over Egypt's Al Masry, in the second leg match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam
The fiercely contested match ended with Simba winning 2-0 in 90 minutes, thus leveling the aggregate score at 2-2, after losing by the same number of goals in the first leg match played in Egypt
Finally, the penalty shootout ruled against Al Masry and enabled Simba to advance to the top four and now they are vying for a record of playing in the final of the tournament as they did in 1993
Due to this great achievement, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, sent her congratulations to the players, the bench technical, and Simba fans through his X (formerly Twitter) page
“Congratulations to Simba Club for reaching the semi final of the CAF Confederation Cup. Your victory is a joy for your fans and entertainment for all Tanzanians. I wish you all the best in the Semi-Finals,” read the message of the President
