Tanzania's national team 'Taifa Stars' will know the opponents they will meet when the draw for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is held today at the Mohammed V International Stadium in Rabat, Morocco
Stars are among the 24 teams that will participate in the tournament that will begin to kick off the dust in Morocco from December 21, this year to January 18 next year, which is the 35th AFCON, held in history since the tournament was established in 1957
The 24 qualified teams will be arranged in four pots with six teams according to the quality of the International Football Federation (FIFA), where Stars is in the fourth pot with other representatives including Mozambique, Comoros, Zimbabwe, Sudan and Botswana
The first pot will have hosts Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria and the defending champions of the tournament Ivory Coast, while the second one will have teams from Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo and Burkina Faso
The third pot is made up of Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea and Benin where in the draw there will be six groups with four teams, while the top two in each group will directly qualify for the round of 16
Those teams will join the four that will finish in third place with the best results to complete the number of 16 teams, which will start competing for the biggest title in Africa, which will be played in six stadiums in six cities
