CAF President Patrice Motsepe says there is a need to deal with the lack of sportsmanship among African countries, which has existed for a long time
African football has been facing hostilities between countries or clubs for a long time. Some examples would be host teams failing to provide adequate transportation, accommodation, or training facilities
The most recent embarrassing incident is where the AFCON 2025 qualifier match between Nigeria and Libya had to be called off. This is after the Super Eagles spent 20 hours stuck at the Libyan Airport
"I've heard so many stories about a football club or national team going to a certain country. You spend hours at the airport, and they ask you about documents"
"Apparently, during the time of COVID-19, they would look at the best players from your team and say those 10 players have COVID-19," Motsepe said during the 46th CAF General Assembly in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia
"You tell them that you have been tested, and they say no, you have COVID. But it is this lack of sportsmanship that has existed, and we have not taken concrete action. If there is a violation of those rules and laws, we will take action"
