After the completion of the three group stage matches, Yanga has faced incidents of unfair treatment by the referees and thus sent a complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the events that occurred in the game against Medeama
Starting with the game against CR Belouizdad, the referees clearly favored the hosts in many cases, including denying Yanga a penalty kick after Pacome Zouzoua was brought down in the penalty area in the early minutes of the game
In the game against Al Ahly, which was played at Benjamin Mkapa's stadium, there were many incidents in which the referee seemed to have a stutter, especially when it appears that the advantage is on Yanga's side
The incident of Pecy Tau stepping on Joyce Lomalisa and causing her pain that made her unable to continue the game is an example of such incidents. The referee did not give any card in the event that Tau could have even been shown a red card
The next game against Medeama also had no difference in decisions. Forget the bad tackle played by defender Kwadwo Amoako against Nickson Kibabage which deserved a straight red card, in that game Yanga was denied a completely legitimate goal
Chairman of the Yanga Competition Committee, Rodgers Gumbo has said that they had to write a letter of complaint to CAF complaining about what was done to them in the game against Medeama
"It is true that we have sent a letter of complaint to CAF due to having evidence of incidents where it is clear that we were not treated fairly which includes the challenge in which our player Nickson Kibabge was played by a Medeama player who deserved to be shown a red card but the referee did not so"
"But there is also an incident of our legal goal that Kibabage scored but the referee rejected it, we are satisfied that it was a legal goal"
"We have written to them so that they know what to do because incidents like those deprive the team of the right to win and give the other a result it does not deserve," said Gumbo
