While he has not yet signed a contract to continue serving PSG, there has been uncertainty about which team Lionel Messi will play for next season
Messi (35) still wants to participate in competitive football as many clubs come forward to give him a rich offer to join them
Everything is possible regarding where Messi will play next season, says Spanish football expert Guillem Balague
Balague says the Argentina captain has received offers from Saudi Arabia and the American Premier League, amid interest in bringing him back to Barcelona, although there is still no official offer
Messi had reached an agreement in principle to extend his contract at PSG for another year, with his priority to continue in European football until 2024
After two seasons in Paris, the club, owned by Qatar Sports Investment, would like to convince him to accept that extra year under the conditions he has now
According to Balague, Messi still needs to be convinced that the Ligue 1 club can remain competitive at the top of European football, while football director Luis Campos is required to reduce wages to meet Financial Fair Play requirements.
"Messi said he would stay for that extra year as long as there is an agreement from both sides, including the guarantee that PSG will be more competitive than it is now" Balague said
"The message that Messi got is that PSG will fix their financial issues, but they have to cut salaries which makes the team less competitive. It is also not clear if the manager will be changed or not"
PSG lead Ligue 1 by six points but their 11th consecutive attempt to win the Champions League ended with a 3-0 aggregate defeat by Bayern Munich in the last 16 last month.
Can Messi really return to Barca? Messi left Barcelona for financial reasons in 2021 but the team has made a big effort to strengthen themselves financially, guaranteeing Messi's return
In addition to playing in France, Messi's home is still in Barcelona and he may be persuaded to join his former employers
