The Police Force has arrested 11 traders and indicted them on suspicion of making fake jerseys with the help of factories making the real jerseys
The army seized 279 Simba fake jerseys along with 15 suspects from Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Mwanza, Tabora and Tunduma who were found selling the jerseys.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Police Spokesperson David Misime said the men were also arrested having 300 jersey necklaces
Misime said the offense was a misappropriation of government revenue due to tax evasion.
"As it is well known, some teams enter into contracts with companies for the manufacture of jerseys by formal agreement and when the jerseys are sold a certain amount of money is given to pay players' salaries and other services," Misime said.
He urged the public to continue reporting when they see fake jerseys being sold to end the practice immediately
